Thanks also to everyone else who sent photos in.
Phew! We've just about
recovered from the mayhem that was dubbed "The Nightmare After Christmas"
tour. First up was the show at Koko in London. After belting into "Smells
Like..." with everyone jumping about like mad, we're just about to
kick into the next song when the entire power to the PA & monitoring
system went off - NO SOUND whatsoever - AAARGGHH! We found out
later that it was down to the fire alarm system in the venue - some of
the smoke alarms were still the old SMOKE detectors instead of the newer
HEAT detectors - & when the smoke machines hit 'em the trip switches
went! After a bit of a delay while we waited for the smoke to clear the
power came back on & we blasted into "Dead And Buried". The
only problem was that a lot of Mrs Fiend's drum machines & keyboards
are analogue & it was a big concern that if & when the power came
back on her equipment could get damaged by the power surge, so she had
to turn EVERYTHING off. Then when the power returned, turn it all back
on again! Further, any programming had been lost so it was a case of being
straight in the deep end for the very first show!!
What a mad 'un that was... storming gig, well mental, over 2 hours long, people had come from Finland, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Spain & even the US so we'd heard.... for some it was their first ever live Fiend experience - hey THEY'LL never be the same again!! & for others who've seen us a number of times over the years quotes included "the best ever", "the most powerful & intense I've seen you do" etc etc.... we did the lot - along with the spider webbing stage set, attendant mannequins, balloons, giant bananas, bones n skulls & even the rat in the dustbin... the crowd chanting their "Mrs Fiend" song... we played songs right thru our career from the very first vinyl release which was "R.I.P" (Batcave album) to the premier of the song "Baby" (from the "Information Overload" album) - watch out for reports of Nik's antics with the he/she blow up doll - ho hum ;-) ... We are waiting for a review of the Koko show to come in (now in - see REVIEW below) from the Wolfman - he has seen a number of ASF shows over the years including the infamous early Batcave days. Also he did the liner notes for the "Who's Been Sleeping In My Brain?" CD, so he's a man who KNOWS! And, some of the show was filmed but it hasn't been checked through yet - fingers crossed on that... then it was across the channel & onto Waregem in Belgium followed by Paris... Nik & Mrs Fiend |

KOKO, LONDON, U.K.
|
![]() Nik lights up in E.S.T...... Thanks to Dominic from Avoidance Of Doubt for introducing us in glowing terms, & to all the DJs - Cavey Nik (Dead & Buried), Sexbat (B-movie), Martin Oldgoth (1313) Barbedwirekiss (Vicious) & Chris Damage (stj). Thanks also to Catasha & Daniel from AntiLight who promoted the show & to Steve for the hospitality (!) |
![]() We changed the order of songs in the set around cos there had been a few problems with the PA system during the soundcheck so instead we started off with "E.S.T." rather than a belter so that any problems could be resolved more easily. But everything was fine (phew!) & to surprise anyone who was there from London (yes we know some of you go to ALL the shows!) next up was "Ignore The Machine". Tonight was the premier of totally new song "One Way Ticket To Venus". Even the crew hadn't heard it before & they reckoned it sounded like something that could have come from the "Acid Bath" album! We had been working on this song especially for these shows. It's not even recorded yet. We haven't played a new song live without it already being recorded since we debuted "Evolution" & "Warp Out" live at the Zillo Festival in Germany in 1995. Thanks to our special guests CLAN OF XYMOX & to our support band OTHER DAY. & to Berndt from The Black Cave who promoted the show. Great food too - thanks! Nik's red drape jacket from the "Magic" video got dug out for the show. Without realising it Nik wore a Judge Death T-shirt, which he also wore the last time we'd played in Belgium - Koekelare - back in '87... - weird coincidence huh? Thanks to Johno who sent in his old T for Nik cos the last one is well & truly Dead & Buried! And the b-b-b-b-b-b-band played on... all night long..... |
WAREGEM SET LIST Premier of "One Way Ticket To Venus"! |
|
Again the set was changed around for this show. "One Way Ticket To Venus" got it's 2nd outing. "Hurricane Fighter Plane" was left out of the set this time & "Get Into It" was brought in along with Nik's famous red "IT" book. Gave your life to IT Thanks to our support band COLLAPSE - nice one guys! & to Guillaume (aka "Bill") & to Monica from La Locomotive. Best croissants ever! & as for the coffee...!! Yeah yeah the JD came later - hurr! After all it IS the "spirit of goth" - Nik sez! Apparently it was the best gig at La Locomotive that anyone had seen in a VERY long time! |
